UNSOLVED #4
Jesse M.
DICKENS (of
1840 Wilson Co., TN)
Who
was the "Jesse M. Dickens" that was enumerated in
the 1840 Wilson County, TN Census as 20-30 with one male
0-5, one male 5-10, one female 0-5, one female 5-10, and
female 20-30?
|
DISCUSSION: This Jesse M. Dickens was
born between 1818-1819, was enumerated in 1840 Wilson
Co., TN, but was not enumerated in the 1850 census in
any State from what I can determine. He reappears in
Wilson Co., TN in 1860. From there, he goes to Smith
Co., TN. This Jesse M. Dickens (a widower)
later marries "Teny Dickens' who was the
daughter of Bryant and
Delaney Dickens (Smith
Co., TN).
|
POSSIBILITIES:
|
|
Jesse
M. Dickens could be a son of
Jesse and Mary Polly
McDerment Dickens of Smith Co., TN, (they had
3 sons before 1820: Hyrum, Joseph, and an
Unidentified 3rd male).
|
|
-
In 1820, Jesse and
Mary Polly McDerment Dickens had 3 males 0-10 in
their household, and 1 male 10-15
-
In 1830, Jesse and
Mary Polly McDerment Dickens had 2 males 10-15, and
1 male 15-20 in their household
-
Joseph W. Dickens (b:
abt. 1816) and Hyrum K. Dickens (b: abt. 1818) can
be connected to Jesse and Mary as
being 2 of the 3 males from the 1820
and 1830 Census
-
Jesse M. Dickens
could be the 3rd of the 3 males from
the 1820 and 1830 census.
-
The much older male
(who was 10-15 in the 1820 Census), who was missing
from Jesse and Mary Polly McDerment Dickens
household in 1830 was probably the "William
Dickens that married Caroline Summersett."
-
This William was
born about 1805, and at this time Jesse would
have only been about 15 years old, thus,
it is very doubtful this William was Jesse's
son. It is more viable this William was a son of
Charlotte or
John Sr.
