UNSOLVED #2
Edward
Glover DICKENS
(of 1830 Sumner Co., TN)
Marriage
UPDATE: In
regards to my original questions/statements in the
paragraphs below, Howard Douglas Dickens (herein called
HDD) spent several weeks researching Edward
Glover Dickens - and his hard work has paid off.
His
extensive research efforts can be viewed on his website
at:
http://imhdd.ms11.net find his link to his "Dickens
of Hurricane Creek" research, select it, and then click
on the link for Edward Glover Dickens.

Who
was the "Edward Glover Dickens"
that
applied for a marriage license (bride: Sarah Sullivan)
in Sumner Co., TN in January 1830,
went to Illinois, then went to IOWA and later
married Druscilla Van Sickle May 27, 1837. |

SOLVED
FACT #1:
HDD shows that the
marriage license applied for in January 1830 in
Sumner Co., TN was not for "Edward G. Dickens and
Sarah Sullivan" but was in fact for a "Edward G.
DINKINS and Sarah
Sullivan"

Edward's actual age is
not fully verified. However, in accordance with a
listing for Council Hill Cemetery, Clayton Co., Iowa, it
says that he was born 1815 (no month or day
stated) and died January 17, 1904 (this is
an error). Some researchers report
his birth at about 1812,
while others report his birth as July 15 of 1815. |

FACT #2:
HDD shows that
Edward's birth is documented as July 15, 1815.

While
Edward was in Illinois, he joined the military and
fought in the "Black Hawk War" which is probably the
reason he ended up in Iowa.
According to records I have seen, it appears that he was
originally buried at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in
McGregor - Clayton County; and it is not known if he was
moved to Council Hill or if the headstone there is
simply a memoriam - his 2nd wife
Ann Druscilla Van Sickle is also buried at Council Hill.
A posted tree for Edward depicts Edward's death date is
January 17, 1894 - which I believe
to be correct because Ann Druscilla was a
widow living in her daughter Sophrana Jennings'
household in the 1900 census. |

FACT #3:
HDD shows
that my assumption that the Edward buried at
Pleasant Grove was the same Edward buried at Council
Hill was incorrect. The Edward at Pleasant Grove was
a grandson.

We now also know that
Druscilla was not Edward's 2nd wife... as the Sumner
Co., TN marriage license was not applied for by
"Edward Glover Dickens" but was in fact applied for
by a Edward G. DINKINS.

Several researchers believe Edward
was the son of "John Dickens" of 1820
Smith, and 1840 Jackson Counties, TN - and that Edward
was raised by friends of the family when his mother
died. I have yet to see or find definitive proof of this
possibility - thus, I am NOT sure if this link to John
Dickens is true or not. In
the 1820 Smith Co., TN Census, John Dickens (herein
after called John Sr.) had only one male
in his household - and that male was 0-10; there
were also 2 females 0-10, and a wife 16-26 (Clarissa,
aka: Cora). A John Dickens (herein called John
Jr.) born about 1813 who married Nancy
Crosslin - is also attributed as being the son of John
Dickens Sr. of 1820 Smith, and 1840 Jackson Counties,
TN. |

FACT #4:
HDD shows ample
evidence to prove John Dickens is in fact the name
of Edward's father.
