Sircey and Molly's Headstones (Mt.
Zion Methodist Church Cemetery, Sullivan Bend Road,
Smith Co., TN).
It
is my belief that my grandfather "William Curtis
Dickens" quarried the stones, and hand made the plaques
himself.
I am not in
possession of any pictures of Sircey and Mollie. If you
have any, I would appreciate it if you would offer me
copies.
I know that Sircey worked at various times between 1910
and 1930 as a laborer building roads in both Smith and
Trousdale Counties, and this fact is also reflected on
page 217 (for 1916) in the book: "Smith County History",
first published 1987 by the Smith County Homecoming 86
Heritage Committee [I have a copy in my personal
collection, and you can find it at the Tennessee State
Library and Archives, and other Libraries across the
country]. In the "Miscellaneous Photos" section of
the Smith County Website at USGenWeb, the last link in
that section titled: "Jeff
Kemp and Smith County Road Workers
- 1920's" - it is possible that any one of the unknown
fellows in the pictures could be "Sircey Dickens" who
would have been in his mid 40's at the time of the
pictures.
