This Prosser Cemetery is located about 200 feet into the entry road on the left hand side on a farm in Ashland City, Cheatham County, Tennessee that was once owned by my great grandfather Nathaniel Lee Prosser - but it is no longer in the family. My Mom who was the only one of her nine other siblings that was born on this farm, told me that when she was a little girl, she and her sisters would come to this site and place marbles, toys, and pretty rocks on the graves of the three Prosser Children that are buried here. The markers for the children were simply Large Stones dug up from the field in back, and the stones were never engraved or marked in any way. The children were laid to rest at this site in the mid 1930's and early 1940's, and my grandfather Charles Edward Prosser was buried in the spot where my Mom stands in the picture above in September of 1985 (next to the 3 children).

The new owner did not like the idea of having a cemetery on the farm, and caused us great grief when visiting the site, so we agreed to relocate my grandfather to another place - which ended up being Harpeth Hills (his new headstone along with wife Edna Barnett is shown in the picture above).  Ironic as it may be - and although we moved grandfather, little does the new owner know - the Prosser Family children are still there... and according to my mother, there is yet another cemetery elsewhere on the property.

Another funny side story:  A researcher once stumbled upon my grandfather Charles Prosser's  grave (which had been marked with a crude plaque) at the old farm, and placed the data on the Cheatham Co., TN website - but showing him as Harley Prosser. I guess the letter "C" had worn off!!! Thank goodness the link is no longer there!

This cemetery is located on "Chestnut Ridge" which rolls through Bedford, Lincoln, Moore and Franklin Counties, Tennessee. It was the first time I had visited this particular cemetery as during the 2003 Chestnut Ridge Cousins Family Reunion - my Mom and I were given a tour of some of our Old Prosser Stomping Grounds located in the area by cousins Barbara (Prosser) Wayman and Polly (Prosser) Dodson. My 3rd Great Grandfather "Grover Morris Prosser" 1821-1905, his wife Mary Ann Rose 1824-1907, and several of their children are buried here. There is no on-line website listing those buried in this cemetery. If your ancestors are from any of the counties mentioned above, I highly recommend that you join the "Chestnut Ridge Cousins - Genealogical Organization" by clicking HERE.
