Joseph C. DICKENS

Was he in the War of 1812?

Was "Joseph C. Dickens" the Joseph Dickens who served in the War of 1812?

DISCUSSION:  Although it is clear that Henry's son Jesse served in the War of 1812 in Copelands, there also was a "Joseph Dickens" on the Muster Rolls for "Woodfolks Battalion No. 3 for the War of 1812 - whom I believe may have been Henry Sr.'s son Joseph C. Dickens.

Woodfolk was a wealthy land owner in Jackson Co., TN - and the records show that Woodfolk's Battalion No. 3 was organized from Jackson, Wilson, Overton, Stewart, and Williamson County, Tennessee - Volunteers. The dates span September 1814 - March/April 1815.

The problem is that Joseph C. Dickens would have only been between 13 to 14 years old at this time. However, in accordance with a narrative available at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., for this particular war - there was an unusual volunteer Army of both older and younger men than normal - thus, it is remotely possible that the Joseph Dickens in Woodfolks was Joseph C. Dickens of Smith Co., TN.

IF Henry Sr.'s son Joseph C. was NOT the same Joseph who served in Woodfolk's Battalion No. 3 - then we have found another Dickens that is unaccounted for!
